Oman Energy Association (OPAL) is a prominent business society in the Sultanate of Oman, focusing on the Energy & Minerals sector. Formed in 1998 as the Oil Industry Training Board (OITB), it later merged with the Oman Oil & Gas Contractor Forum to become OPAL, officially registered on October 27, 2001.
OPAL aims to strengthen its services by promoting work standards, increasing competencies, and enhancing professionalism. Its long-term goal is to elevate Oman’s Energy Industry to a world-class level, ensuring it is internationally competitive and a leader in sustainable Hydrocarbon and Renewable energy management. OPAL serves as a facilitating body to align stakeholders’ objectives and address common challenges for the benefit of its members.
Industry leaders meet quarterly to discuss mutual benefits and consensus, with an elected board governing the society under high corporate governance standards. OPAL’s effective executive team implements its programs and serves its members.
QHSE is a key priority, with OPAL striving for ‘Goal Zero’ to achieve no fatalities or serious injuries. The Human Resources Development scheme prioritizes employers' needs, enhancing competence and work ethics. Over the past 25 years, OPAL has facilitated the training and employment of over 15,000 Omanis and re-employed more than 9,700.
During global crises, including Covid-19, OPAL has demonstrated its vital economic and social role in Oman.
